APPLICATION FOR THE 2nd EDITION OF THE ADVANCED COMPUTING DESIGN CONTEST STARTS ON JULY 19

Applications for the 2nd edition of the Advanced Computing Projects Competition start on July 19th. The objective is to encourage the use of computing resources from HPC and Scientific Cloud, to obtain new knowledge that allows scientific and technological advancement in all domains of knowledge.

The competition promoted by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), through its FCCN unit, is a collaboration with the four operational centers – Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC), Advanced Computing Laboratory of the University of Coimbra (LCA-UC ), High Performance Computing from the University of Évora (HPC-UÉ) and National Infrastructure for Distributed Computing (INCD).

This 2nd edition has been allocated 31 million CPU core.horas or vCPU.horas on platforms of the National Network for Advanced Computing (RNCA), and applications will be accepted in all scientific areas, using High Performance Computing (High Performance Computing – HPC) and/or Scientific Cloud in three different typologies:

– A0 – Experimental Access – recommended for projects without previous experience in HPC and Scientific Cloud; limit of 15 000 CPU core.hours or vCPU.hours, maximum duration 6 months.

–  A1 – Preparatory Access – for projects with some previous experience in HPC and Scientific Cloud that need testing, benchmarking, re-factoring, others; limit of 100 000 CPU core.hours or vCPU.hours, maximum duration 6 months.

– A2 – Project Access – for projects with previous experience in HPC or Scientific Cloud; limit of 3 000 000 CPU core.hours or vCPU_core.hours, maximum duration 12 months.

Applications for Project Access (A2) will be open from July 19 to September 13, 2021. The two remaining accesses, A0 and A1, will be available on a continuous basis from July 19 to April 28, 2022 or until all available resources are exhausted.
