
Five Portuguese projects competing at the World Summit Awards
The next edition of the World Summit Awards (WSA) will be held in 2020 in Vienna, and there are five Portuguese projects competing for the international awards for technological innovation with great social impact.
The contest was founded in the framework of the United Nations' World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), in cooperation with UNESCO and UNIDO. The final stage of the competition took place for the first time in Portugal in March 2019, awarding the best apps of 2018. This year, until June 15th, the digital entrepreneurs can submit their projets to Associação Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimeto das Comunicações (APDC), which is in charge of the Portuguese selection.
In consonance with INCoDe.2030 Education, Inclusion and Research Actions Lines, the Portuguese projets fall in the categories of Government & Citizen Engagment, Learning & Education, Smart Settlements & Urbanization, and Inclusion & Empowerment. The Portuguese apps are City Point Cascais, Snapcity, Pordata, Via Verde Mobility Digital Ecosystem and Body Interact - the last two were awarded in the previous edition.
WSA started in 2003, with projetcs from more than 180 countries. The Global Congress, which will take place in Vienna in 2020, is the final stage of the technological innovation process, which aims to address the present day international issues, as identified by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
